We have tears!!!!

Yes, you read it right, we are excited about tears. Cole had eye surgery on Friday (4-9) for clogged tear ducts. His left was so bad that it created a bulge within 3-5 hours of "squishing" it out. We had it done in Wilmington and for any of you around here, Dr. (David) Johnson is FANTASTIC! Cole was first on his list that morning as he was the youngest. He could have no food past midnight which is tricky as Cole goes in 5-6 hour stretches at night. Well he woke at 5am but with a few tricks up mom and dad's sleeves we all survived. Gigi and Poppy stayed with Parker while we stayed the night in Wilmington which made it a lot easier. Surgery was about 1 hour and 15 minutes from IV, intubation (yes he had to be intubated :( because he has reflux. Better safe than sorry), surgery and then recovery. They prepared us that he would be cranky after anesthesia and boy were they right. Add hungry (no food for 9 hours) and reflux and you have an irritated baby. He was so disoriented and I'm sure sore. Once home and Motrin kicked in though he was able to sleep soundly and then Cole came back. That is, our baby who despite how crappy he feels he always tries to toss in a few smiles and tries to be pleasant. He looked different to us an hour after being home and we finally realized it was that he had tears in his eyes. We weren't used to seeing him with tears much less having glossy eyes. He actually has more of a bridge to his nose now too. Guess he was stretched out. We are so thankful everything went well. And man hats off to you families who have had to endure your babies having more serious surgeries than this. That is one tough thing to prepare for.

What do you mean I can't eat?
(Cole in the hotel awake at 5am. We didn't have to be there until 6:30am. Luckily T.V. is so novel that it took his mind off things til he calmed. Than he went right to some toys.
What a trooper!)

Our sweet baby right before going into surgery

Cole that afternoon interested in playing a little with daddy after a good nap and some Motrin.

Back to their silliness. Cole enjoying some Parker snuggles. Parker wanted to share his bed, pillow and blankies with Cole after he got back. Isn't he great!
"How do you like my spikey hair?"

So sweet. You said it about the post-surgery phase...I have NEVER seen Davis so mad and upset as compared to after how he was after the ear surgeries. In fact, when we realized he'd have to have it for a second time, the first thing I told Chris is that "I'm not going to be in the recovery area with him...that's your job." I couldn't handle it. I cannot believe Cole is so "chill". That kid, seriously, looks like he lives on cloud 9 all the time. My favorite picture is the one of you and him right before surgery...in his little hospital gown...makes us smile!

Way to go Cole!
